Auto Transmiss Parts Engine Harmonic Balancer

This engine harmonic balancer (also called a crankshaft damper or crankshaft pulley balancer) is an OE-style replacement part from Auto Transmiss Parts. It mounts to the front of the crankshaft. It absorbs the torsional vibrations created each time a cylinder fires, which helps protect the crankshaft and keeps the engine running smoothly.

Key Features:

• Absorbs crankshaft vibration: reduces the twisting and vibration forces that can stress the crankshaft.
• Typical construction: a hub that bolts to the crankshaft, a rubber or fluid damping layer, and an outer metal ring with grooves for the drive belt.
• Belt drive support: the outer pulley section drives the accessory belt.
• Direct replacement: replaces a worn or damaged balancer, restoring normal engine operation.

Over time the rubber or fluid damping layer can deteriorate. The outer pulley can then shift out of position, which causes belt misalignment and can lead to crankshaft damage. Replace a cracked, separated or wobbling balancer promptly. Installation usually requires a harmonic balancer puller and installer tool set.
