Behr: A Century of Thermal Management Excellence
Few names carry as much weight in automotive thermal management as Behr. Founded in 1916, Behr has been providing quality parts to car makers and vehicle owners alike for over a century. Headquartered in Stuttgart-Feuerbach, Germany, Behr is a specialist for automotive air conditioning and engine cooling systems. That deep engineering heritage is what makes Behr parts a trusted choice for enthusiasts and professional technicians alike.
From OE Supplier to Aftermarket Leader
Behr GmbH & Co. KG is a systems partner of the international automobile industry and one of the world's leading manufacturers and suppliers of original equipment for light vehicles and trucks. Behr manufactures Original Equipment Spares (OES) for automakers and replacement parts for the Independent Aftermarket (IAM) for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
Since fall 2013, Behr has been part of the MAHLE Group as the Thermal Systems business unit. Following the acquisition of the entire shareholding in Behr Hella Service by MAHLE Aftermarket, all existing activities were transferred to MAHLE, giving customers access to a broad portfolio of thermal management products for passenger cars, trucks, and agricultural vehicles—offered under the BEHR sales brand.
A Complete Thermal Management Portfolio
Behr's product lineup covers every critical component in a vehicle's temperature regulation circuit. At the heart of the engine cooling system is the Behr Radiator—a component the brand has perfected across decades of OE development. Cooling products from Behr include radiators, expansion tanks, intercoolers, oil coolers, and water pumps, with their all-aluminum radiators being lighter and offering superior performance—and made from completely recyclable materials.
Keeping the engine fan operating precisely is equally critical. Behr's Engine Cooling Fan Clutches and Engine Cooling Fan Clutch Bearing Brackets are engineered to exacting OE tolerances. With products from the traditional Visco® brand, which has been around for more than 50 years, MAHLE offers a range of highly proven and powerful fan drives that generate additional savings and reduce engine noise.
On the air conditioning side, Behr delivers a full suite of components. The A/C condenser is the counterpart to the A/C compressor: the compressor heats the refrigerant, while the A/C Condenser reduces the temperature again—gas flows through the pipework and fins, emitting heat, which lowers pressure and causes the refrigerant to liquefy. Equally important is the A/C Evaporator Core. The evaporator is a core element of temperature management, located in the vehicle cabin below the dashboard and integrated into the ventilation system, where it handles the heat transfer between surrounding air and the refrigerant. MAHLE Behr evaporators are characterized by their high performance, small packaging depth, and low weight.
