Product Details

The Heil 1171306 is an OEM hot surface ignitor (HSI) designed for gas furnaces manufactured by Heil, Tempstar, Comfortmaker, and other International Comfort Products (ICP) brands. This critical component provides reliable ignition for your heating system, replacing the need for traditional standing pilot lights with modern, energy-efficient hot surface ignition technology.

Key Features:

  • Genuine OEM replacement part for Heil, Tempstar, and Comfortmaker furnaces
  • Silicon carbide construction for durability and consistent performance
  • Heats to ignition temperature in seconds for quick furnace startup
  • Direct plug-in replacement for easy installation
  • Compatible with multiple ICP furnace models

How It Works:

When your thermostat calls for heat, the furnace control board sends voltage to the hot surface ignitor. The silicon carbide element rapidly heats to approximately 2,500°F, glowing bright orange. Once the ignitor reaches proper temperature, the gas valve opens and the burners ignite from the intense heat. This on-demand ignition system is more efficient than standing pilot lights, only activating when heating is needed.

Installation Notes:

The ignitor element is fragile and should be handled carefully during installation. Avoid touching the silicon carbide element with bare hands, as oils from skin can cause premature failure. Always disconnect power to the furnace before replacing the ignitor. The electrical connector typically plugs directly into the furnace control board for simple replacement.

This hot surface ignitor is a wear item that typically lasts several years under normal operating conditions. Common signs of failure include delayed ignition, frequent cycling, or complete failure to start the furnace.
