Diesel Injection Control Pressure Harness
Dorman 904222 Injection Control Pressure Sensor Pigtail Connector
What Is a Diesel Injection Control Pressure Harness?
On diesel engines — particularly Ford Power Stroke-equipped trucks like the F-250, F-350, and E-Series vans — the Injection Control Pressure (ICP) sensor plays a critical role in fuel delivery. Diesel injection control pressure harnesses are the dedicated wiring assemblies that connect this sensor to the engine control module (ECM), carrying the real-time pressure data the ECM needs to meter fuel injection precisely.
Diesel engines operate fundamentally differently from gasoline engines: rather than relying on a spark, they depend on precise pressure and temperature to combust fuel. The ICP sensor continuously monitors fuel pressure inside the high-pressure injection circuit, and the ECM uses that data to adjust injection timing and fuel quantity for the current load and throttle position. Without a healthy, intact harness bridging that communication, the signal chain breaks down — and so does engine performance.
Why the Harness Matters
The ICP sensor harness lives in a harsh underhood environment, exposed to heat, vibration, and — critically — engine oil. Over time, original harnesses can become oil-fouled, corroded, or physically damaged, degrading or completely severing the signal between the sensor and ECM. When that happens, the ECM can no longer accurately regulate injection pressure, leading to a range of drivability problems.
Common symptoms of a failed or damaged diesel ICP harness include:
- Hard starting or no-start condition
- Rough idle, surging, or stalling
- Poor acceleration and reduced power
- Increased exhaust emissions
- Check Engine Light with diagnostic trouble codes such as P0191, P0192, or P0193
Because the harness itself — not just the sensor — is often the root cause of these codes, replacing a worn or oil-contaminated harness is a cost-effective first step in diagnosis and repair.
What to Look for When Buying a Replacement
When shopping for a diesel injection control pressure harness, fit and materials are the two most important factors. Look for a harness engineered to match OE connector design and wire gauge for your specific application. Higher-quality options use plastic jacketing or protective sleeving designed to resist oil intrusion — a key failure mode for these harnesses. Confirm vehicle compatibility by year, make, model, and engine size before ordering, as these harnesses are application-specific.
For most DIY mechanics, replacement is manageable with basic automotive hand tools, making this a practical repair to tackle without a shop visit.
