MSD 8401 Modified HEI Coil Dust Cover for External Coil Conversion

The MSD 8401 Modified HEI Dust Cover is a stock-style replacement dust cover engineered to convert a GM HEI distributor from an internal coil configuration to an externally mounted coil setup. This direct-fit cover installs in place of the factory HEI coil dust cover, eliminating the internal coil and routing ignition power through a remote-mounted coil such as the MSD Blaster 2.

Key Features:

• Stock-style replacement modified HEI coil dust cover for seamless fitment
• Enables use of an externally mounted ignition coil with a standard internal-coil GM HEI distributor
• Made from high-quality plastic that resists spark loss
• Uses brass conductors for low-resistance electrical connections
• Designed to install on stock HEI distributor caps with no cap modification required
• Installs using the original factory screws
• Holley/MSD Emissions Code 5 — legal for sale and use on emissions-controlled vehicles, non-emissions-controlled vehicles, and racing use
• Includes a Y-spliced pink wire and brown wire for coil wiring

By relocating the ignition coil outside the distributor cap, the MSD 8401 improves the reliability and overall performance of the stock HEI ignition system. The external coil placement reduces heat exposure and allows for easier coil upgrades without replacing the entire distributor. Backed by MSD's limited 1-year warranty.
