FJC Refrigerant Oil
FJC Refrigerant Oil: Purpose-Built Lubrication for Every A/C System
When it comes to keeping an automotive air conditioning compressor healthy, the right refrigerant oil is just as critical as the refrigerant itself. FJC has built a well-earned reputation as a manufacturer and distributor of automotive A/C products, and their refrigerant oil lineup reflects the same depth of expertise found across their full catalog. Whether you're servicing a classic R-12 system, maintaining a modern R-134a vehicle, or working on a newer platform using R-1234yf, FJC offers a purpose-matched lubricant for the job.
A Full Spectrum of Oil Types and Viscosities
FJC's refrigerant oil range spans the three primary oil chemistries used in mobile A/C systems:
- PAG Oil (Polyalkylene Glycol): PAG oil is a synthetic oil specifically designed to lubricate R-134a automotive air conditioner compressors. There are different viscosities of PAG oil used by OEMs — PAG 46 (the most popular), PAG 100 (also common), and PAG 150 (more rarely used) — and FJC offers PAG oils in all three viscosities, with options that include Extreme Cold or Fluorescent Dye additives.
- Ester Oil (POE): Because mineral oil and PAG oil cannot be mixed, polyol ester oil (POE) was developed to bridge the gap for system conversions. Ester oil is often called "retrofit oil" because it mixes with both R-12 and R-134a. Ester molecules are very stable and have excellent performance characteristics in both high and low temperature environments, and FJC offers Ester oil with Extreme Cold and Fluorescent Dye additives.
- R-1234yf Oil (ZEROL HD46): ZEROL HD46 is a polyalkylene glycol lubricant designed specifically for application with R-1234yf refrigerant in mobile air conditioning systems, and is manufactured to exacting standards of high efficiency. ZEROL HD46 is suitable for use in both belt- and electrically-driven compressors utilizing R-1234yf.
Signature Product Lines Worth Knowing
Beyond the core oil types, FJC has developed several distinctive product lines that stand out in the refrigerant oil category:
- DyEstercool: FJC's DyEstercool oil contains FJC Universal Fluorescent Leak Detection Dye, is compatible with R-12 & R-134a, Mineral, Ester, Paraffin & PAG oils, and can be detected using standard UV light. This makes it a favorite for shops that want to combine lubrication service with proactive leak detection in a single step.
- Universal PAG Oil: FJC Universal PAG Oil can be used in R-134a or R-12 mobile A/C systems and can be used in a system being retrofitted from R-12 to R-134a — it can be mixed with any other oil used in these systems, thanks to a technologically advanced formula designed to allow one PAG for use in all mobile A/C systems.
- Estercool: FJC's Estercool refrigerant oil can be added to any existing R-12 or R-134a mobile A/C system, prevents acid from forming, and inhibits corrosion.
Integrated Leak Detection: A Key Differentiator
One area where FJC's refrigerant oils go beyond basic lubrication is their built-in dye technology. FJC's oils with dye additives mix with the refrigerant and circulate throughout the A/C system; at the area of a leak, a small amount of dye escapes and stains the area, exposing the leak — UV/fluorescent dyes allow the operator to see this with the aid of a UV lamp and enhancing glasses. This dual-purpose approach saves technicians time and eliminates a separate dye injection step during service.
Whether you're a professional technician or a dedicated DIYer, FJC's refrigerant oils provide a well-organized, system-matched solution for virtually any automotive A/C application on the road today.
