About Certified Parts Corporation
Certified Parts Corporation (CPC) is a privately held manufacturer and distributor headquartered in Janesville, Wisconsin, with a mission that sets it apart from virtually every other parts supplier: preserving iconic legacy brands that might otherwise disappear forever. Founded in 1982 by James Grafft, CPC was built on a passion for history and an eye for opportunity — sourcing and manufacturing hard-to-find replacement parts for out-of-production recreational vehicles long before "heritage parts" became a mainstream concept.
What began as a focused effort to supply obsolete replacement parts for snowmobiles, go-karts, personal watercraft, and mini-cycles has grown into a multi-brand manufacturing enterprise. CPC now operates as the authoritative original-parts source for several well-known names, including Comet, TecumsehPower, Wisconsin Wagon, and an extensive vintage recreational vehicle division. The company also owns several historic motorcycle and mini-cycle brands — among them Bridgestone, Indian, Rupp, Chaparral, and Steen — keeping alive a piece of powersports history for enthusiasts and restorers alike.
The Comet Division: A Clutch Legacy Over 60 Years in the Making
Perhaps the most significant chapter in CPC's story came in 2009, when the company acquired the assets of both TecumsehPower and Comet drives (along with Hoffco outdoor power equipment). Both operations were consolidated into a 200,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Edgerton, Wisconsin, where CPC continues to produce original-spec components to this day.
The Comet brand, now a division of CPC, has been engineering high-performance power transmission solutions for more than six decades. Comet's lineup centers on clutch and drivetrain components — including centrifugal clutches, industrial clutches, torque converters, belts, and disc brakes — designed for industrial, commercial, and recreational applications. Whether it's a go-kart on a weekend track, a piece of agricultural equipment, or a marine application, Comet clutches are engineered to deliver reliable, consistent power transfer across demanding conditions.
TecumsehPower & the Lauson Legacy
CPC's acquisition of TecumsehPower assets led to the establishment of Lauson Power Products, LLC, which brought back an engine lineage tracing its roots all the way back to 1895. A subsequent partnership with Liquid Combustion Technologies (LCT) reintroduced the Snow King and Lauson engine brands to the outdoor power equipment market, giving dealers and end-users access to a trusted service network for all three engine families.
