Moroso Performance Products: A Racing Legacy Built Since 1968
Moroso Performance Products has been a cornerstone of American motorsports engineering for more than five decades. Founded in 1968 by Dick Moroso — one of the most accomplished modified production drag racers of his era — the company grew from a passion for wringing every ounce of performance out of a racing engine into one of the world's most respected suppliers of automotive equipment for racing and street performance applications.
Moroso manufactures over 4,000 products, from oil pans and oiling systems to ignition wire, ignition components, valve covers, fuel system equipment, air cleaners, hard-core racing tools, chassis and suspension equipment, and numerous other performance parts. That breadth of catalog means whether you're building a dedicated drag car, a road-race machine, or a high-performance street driver, Moroso likely has a part engineered specifically for your application.
Pioneers of the Deep-Sump Oil Pan
Few contributions to performance engine building are as foundational as Moroso's work with oil pans. Moroso pioneered many racing products including deep-sump oil pans, electric water pumps, tall valve covers, lightweight front drag tires, and racing vacuum pumps. The deep-sump concept was born from a simple but powerful insight: keeping oil away from the crankshaft produces more power, because preventing the crankshaft from "sloshing" in oil greatly reduces frictional losses known as "windage."
Today, that heritage lives on across a wide range of engine oil pans engineered for drag racing, oval racing, road racing, and street/strip use. Whether you drag, oval, or road race, Moroso offers oil pans specially designed for front- or rear-wheel-drive sport compacts, with each pan fully fabricated from aluminum or steel with race-proven features that control oil for maximum power. Moroso also carries a full line of automatic transmission oil pans that bring the same race-tested philosophy to the drivetrain, helping protect and cool automatic transmissions under demanding conditions.
Manufacturing Quality Backed by Decades of Racing Validation
The company has an impressive list of customers, ranging from grassroots racers to top-level NASCAR® and NHRA/IHRA race teams. That cross-section of customers — from the weekend warrior to the professional racer — speaks to just how versatile and reliable Moroso products are across the performance spectrum.
Computers with the latest CAD/CAM software have replaced the drafting tables, and the Moroso plant is filled with sophisticated CNC machinery, including turret punch presses, turning centers, and lathes — a combination of highly skilled craftsmen and accurate machinery that guarantees the tradition of quality started by Dick Moroso in 1968 will continue throughout the coming decades.
The Connecticut-based manufacturing operation is home to Moroso Performance Products and Competition Engineering – The Chassis People. The company also owns Moroso Wire Technologies, a state-of-the-art ignition wire manufacturing facility in Philadelphia, PA. This vertically integrated approach allows Moroso to maintain tight quality control over every product that bears their name.
