HKS Cat-Back Exhaust System

The HKS Cat-Back Exhaust System (also called a catback exhaust or performance exhaust) is part of the HKSTUDIE line. HKS developed it in Japan together with the tuning house STUDIE. It replaces the factory exhaust from the catalytic converter back. It is designed to reduce exhaust restriction, sharpen throttle and boost response, and give a refined but sporty exhaust note.

• Free-flowing design: The pipe routing is optimized and the main muffler is unrestricted. HKS says this lowers exhaust pressure compared with the OEM system.
• Output gains: HKS's in-house testing on stock vehicles showed higher power at high rpm and more torque. Boost response also improved.
• Frequency-tuned sound: The mufflers were designed using frequency analysis. They suppress low-frequency highway drone around 100 Hz and bring out the sportier mid-frequency tone above 200 Hz. The cabin stays comfortable when cruising, and the exhaust sounds more assertive under throttle.
• Stainless steel construction: The main material is SUS304 stainless steel, which resists corrosion and heat.
• Signature quad-exit tail tips: The thick-walled, slash-cut tips are inspired by the classic BMW 3.0 CSL. They have a blasted, dull-gloss finish.
• Japanese manufacturing: HKS builds the system at its own factory in Japan under strict quality control. Its sound levels are tuned to meet Japan's exhaust noise regulations.
