Standard Motor Products Neutral/Backup Light Switch

The Standard Motor Products Neutral/Backup Light Switch (also called a neutral safety switch, backup lamp switch or reverse light switch) is a transmission-mounted switch. It signals the vehicle's electrical system when the transmission is shifted into reverse or placed in park or neutral. Standard Motor Products is a long-established supplier of aftermarket engine management and electrical components.

Key Features:

• Turns on the backup (reverse) lights when the transmission is shifted into reverse
• On applicable designs, allows the engine to start only in park or neutral, which helps prevent accidental starting while in gear
• Built to replace the original equipment switch with a direct-fit design
• Designed for reliable electrical contact and durability under heat, vibration and exposure to transmission fluid and road conditions
• Connector and housing designs are matched to the application for a secure, proper installation

Symptoms of a failing switch: backup lights that do not work or stay on, a no-start condition, or the engine starting in gear. Replacing a worn switch restores safe reverse lighting and starting function. Select the specific part number for your application from the options on this page.
