Copeland 918-0088-04 Crankcase Heater Kit for Compressor Protection

The Copeland 918-0088-04 Crankcase Heater is an essential compressor protection component designed to maintain optimal operating conditions in refrigeration and air conditioning systems. This crankcase heater keeps the compressor crankcase warm during off cycles, preventing refrigerant migration that can cause damaging liquid slugging at startup.

Key Features:

• Maintains crankcase temperature above refrigerant condensing point to prevent vapor migration
• Prevents oil dilution and ensures proper oil circulation throughout the system
• Limited wattage design prevents oil overheating and carbonization
• Wrap-around belt style installation for easy drop-in replacement
• UL-recognized for safety and reliability
• Rugged construction for extended service life

Applications:

• Residential and commercial refrigeration systems
• Air conditioning and heat pump units
• Outdoor and rooftop compressor installations
• Systems exposed to cold ambient temperatures

When a compressor is not operating, refrigerant vapor naturally migrates to the coldest part of the system—typically the crankcase. This migration accelerates when the compressor temperature drops below the evaporator temperature, causing refrigerant to condense and mix with compressor oil. The resulting liquid refrigerant can cause catastrophic damage during startup. The Copeland 918-0088-04 Crankcase Heater solves this problem by maintaining sufficient warmth to keep refrigerant vaporized and oil at proper viscosity for immediate pressure development upon startup.
