Product Details

The Wells 5S12491 Ignition Knock Detonation Sensor is designed to detect preignition, a phenomenon that occurs when the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber ignites before the spark plug fires. This sensor listens for certain harmonic frequencies associated with engine knock or ping and sends a voltage signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM) when detected.

Key Features:

  • Designed and manufactured to meet or exceed original equipment manufacturers' specifications for performance and durability
  • Matches or improves on OE design to ensure fast, easy installation and superior performance
  • Enables the engine control module to adjust ignition timing and injection pulse width for optimal performance
  • Measures engine vibration caused by pre-ignition to prevent engine damage

A malfunctioning or inoperative knock sensor can allow engine knock to occur and may cause the Check Engine Light, Service Engine Soon light, or Malfunction Indicator Lamp to illuminate. Not correcting a failed sensor condition can cause reduced fuel mileage and performance under load, increased emissions, and damage to other components.
