Product Details

The Brush Research GB41824 Flex-Hone Grit Silicon Carbide Cylinder Hone is a 4-1/8 inch surface finishing and deburring tool (also called a cylinder hone, ball hone, glaze breaker or glaze buster) designed for nominal bore sizes between 3.75 in and 4.125 in. It uses 240 grit silicon carbide abrasive globules, which work well on mild steel, stainless steel and cast iron.

Key Features:

  • 240 grit silicon carbide abrasive globules, generally giving an Ra finish range of 24-32 microinch (.6-.8 micrometer). Significant changes in surface finish may require multiple grits.
  • 4.00 in of abrasive globules, with an overall tool length of 13.5 in.
  • Twisted wire stem fits any collet, chuck or similar holding device.
  • Abrasive globules are laminated onto the ends of flexible nylon filaments, so the tool is self-aligning, self-centering and self-compensating for wear.
  • Removes loose, torn and folded metal and creates a flat plateau surface that improves oil retention and sealing without changing bore geometry.
  • Also removes burrs from cross-drilled holes and slots.

Sizing: Flex-Hone tools are produced oversized by the manufacturer, so always order by your nominal bore diameter. If your nominal bore size falls between standard sizes, order the next larger size.

Usage Notes:

  • Have the tool rotating before it enters the bore, and do not change the direction of rotation while inside the piece.
  • Do not run the tool at high speed while it is unsupported outside the bore.
  • Do not apply a side load to the shank or stem, and do not exceed the recommended rotation speed.
  • Reduce speed on entry and exit to avoid oscillation that could compromise the shank or stem.
  • Always use ample lubricant or honing oil. Do not use solvents.
