US Mag Wheels: Six Decades of American Custom Wheel Heritage
Few names in the custom wheel world carry the legacy of US Mag. Wheels from this brand aren't just hardware — they are rolling history. US Mag was founded in the mid-1960s by racing legend Parnelli Jones and his childhood friend Art Hale Sr., who needed wide, performance-capable wheels to pair with the aggressive tires of the muscle car era. From those roots grew what would eventually become the largest custom wheel company in the United States by 1988.
When Art Hale Jr. reacquired the brand in 2010, he re-launched US Mag with a commitment to honoring its origins while embracing modern manufacturing. The brand re-introduced the iconic five-spoke “Standard” and kidney-bean “Indy” designs — the same silhouettes that originally ignited the custom wheel market — now built with updated materials and advanced casting methods for improved strength, balance, and finish durability.
A Wheel Collection for Every Build
US Mag's lineup spans a broad spectrum of styles and construction types. Their Vintage 1 and 2-Piece Cast collections are defined by vintage monoblock styling — deep lips, clean spoke profiles, and timeless proportions that look right at home on a restored muscle car or a resto-mod build. For builders who demand the ultimate in lightweight performance, the Precision Series is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum alloy forging, with each wheel made to order and customized to fit exact vehicle specifications. The Tuckin’ Series was engineered specifically for classic and lowered street trucks, while the Supreme Classics collection honors heritage designs like the iconic “Big Slot” — better known to enthusiasts as the original slot mag wheel.
Newer additions like the UC147 Flagstaff — US Mag's first Fusion Forged wheel — push the technology envelope further, while the UF073 Dagger stands as the ultimate 2-piece forged option for classic cars, trucks, and hot rods. The UF071 Prescott delivers the bold look of classic billet wheels with thoroughly modern construction.
Fitment, Finish, and Construction
US Mag wheels are available in diameters ranging from 15 to 26 inches, with widths from 5 to 11 inches and offsets spanning -50mm to +40mm, providing an exceptionally broad fitment range for muscle cars, hot rods, classic trucks, SUVs, and modern street machines. Lug configurations cover 4- to 8-lug bolt patterns, ensuring compatibility across a wide variety of domestic and import platforms.
Finish options are equally expansive — from polished aluminum and chrome to matte black, anthracite, gunmetal, satin silver, and textured gray. Many models feature diamond-cut lips or milled accents that add depth and contrast to classic spoke designs. Durable powder coating on painted finishes helps resist wear and corrosion over time.
Beyond aesthetics, lightweight aluminum construction reduces rotational mass, which translates to sharper handling, improved braking response, and better acceleration. Each wheel is built in the United States, reflecting a standard of craftsmanship that has defined the brand since the very beginning.
Who Are US Mag Wheels For?
US Mag wheels are an outstanding choice for enthusiasts restoring or customizing classic American muscle cars, hot rods, pro-street trucks, and lowriders who want an authentic period-correct look backed by modern engineering. Whether you’re building a numbers-matching resto or a slammed street machine, the US Mag catalog offers a wheel to match the vision.
