Zamp Racing Z-Tech: Engineered Head and Neck Protection for Motorsports
When it comes to driver safety, few pieces of equipment carry more responsibility than a head and neck restraint (HNR). In a frontal crash, these devices restrain the driver's head relative to the torso, dramatically reducing the loads placed on the head and neck. Zamp Racing takes that responsibility seriously with their purpose-built Z-Tech series — a lineup of SFI 38.1 certified restraints designed to deliver measurable protection without compromising a driver's range of motion or comfort behind the wheel.
The Z-Tech Series Lineup
Zamp's Z-Tech family spans several model tiers — the 2A, 3A, 6A, and 8A — each sharing the brand's core engineering philosophy while offering progressively refined features. Zamp now offers four model selections in the Z-Tech Series (2A, 3A, 6A, and 8A), with the 2A serving as the base model and one of the most affordable head and neck restraints available.
The Z-Tech Series 6A introduces patent-pending features including a high back that provides a more natural pull angle and easier side-to-side movement, along with an Advanced Axis Adjustment system that allows drivers to fine-tune shoulder width, arm angle, and arm width to fit different body shapes and race seat configurations. The Series 8A builds on this foundation, offering a high back for a more natural pull angle and easy side-to-side movement, and is extremely comfortable and lightweight with little restriction in the shoulder and chest areas, while a Kevlar Webbing Tether connects the helmet to the restraint and maintains good side-to-side motion during use.
What Sets Zamp Z-Tech Apart
A defining characteristic of the Z-Tech line is its Dual Compound Frame construction. A specialized fiberglass reinforced nylon is used for the shoulder frame, offering leading structural characteristics, while arms made with a modified alloy material give the device a dampening characteristic in a crash — the two materials working together for excellent performance.
Connectivity and ease of use are also priorities. The Spring Clip Quick Connect allows drivers to effortlessly attach or detach the restraint from their helmet using just one hand. A Kevlar Webbing Single Point Tether connects the helmet to the restraint and provides good side-to-side motion during use. Replaceable, washable padding gives racers the ease of cleaning or replacing comfort components over time.
All Zamp Z-Tech systems are SFI 38.1 certified head and neck restraint systems designed to enhance driver safety in motorsports by reducing neck injuries during impacts. The devices are designed and assembled in the U.S.A. , reinforcing the brand's commitment to domestic quality control.
One Size Doesn't Have to Mean One Fit
One of the most common frustrations with HNR devices is achieving a proper fit across different body types and vehicle configurations. Zamp addresses this directly. The Z-Tech Series 2A is adjustable in width from 12.75 inches (narrow) to 15.25 inches (widest) , and Advanced Axis Adjustment allows drivers to tune arm angle and arm width to fit different body shapes, sizes, and race vehicles. All necessary helmet hardware is included to get started with one helmet right out of the box.
Whether you're competing in wheel-to-wheel road racing, oval track, or any sanctioned motorsport discipline that mandates SFI 38.1 compliance, Zamp Racing's Z-Tech series offers a well-engineered, accessible entry point into certified head and neck protection.
