How It Works:

Bump stop springs allow a race car to run a relatively soft initial spring rate for optimal handling characteristics, then progressively engage the higher-rate bump spring as the suspension nears maximum compression. This dual-rate setup cushions impacts, keeps tires in better contact with the track surface, and prevents damage from bottoming out.
